Maranta leuconeura, aka the Prayer Plant, needs lightly moist soil at all times and high humidity to thrive. You can provide adequate humidity through misting or with a humidity tray. A humidity tray is a saucer underneath the plant filled with pebbles and water that creates a humidity bubble around the plant as it evaporates. Keep away from direct sun as this will scorch its leaves. It is best to have Marantas in a Northern or Eastern exposure as these have the gentlest light. Keep a few feet away from Western or Southern windows. If you notice crisping or curling on the leaves, this could be due to low humidity or too much light. These plants are safe for pets.  Fertilize once per month during the growing season.

Marantas can also be a little sensitive to salts in tap water- if you find that their leaves are browning along the edges or at the tips, it could be due to salt accumulation. You can remedy this by providing them with filtered water or rainwater.
