Selenicereus anthonyanus 'Zig Zag Cactus'
Native to Mexican rainforests, Selenicereus anthonyanus is an epiphytic cactus that loves to climb trees and root in their nooks and crannies, similarly to bromeliads and tillandsia. Their large, beautiful flowers bloom at night for one day in the late spring/ early summer. Because they are cacti and epiphytic, these plants appreciate well draining soil but they also like for it to be rich with nutrients. You can add perlite, orchid bark, sand, or fine gravel to your standard potting mix to provide more drainage. Provide bright, indirect light for these plants, with an Eastern exposure being ideal, and try to give them more light in the spring to induce flowering. Allow the soil to dry out in between waterings. These plants are fast growing and can have stalks up to 6' long over time.
