Strobilanthes dyerianus, aka Persian Shield, is a stunning plant with vibrant, purple variegation. Strobilanthes dyerianus is commonly grown as an annual outdoors. For optimal growth, provide this plant with bright-indirect light and keep the soil evenly moist during the growing season, only allowing the top inch or so to dry out (soil should feel like a wrung-out sponge). Allow the top few inches of soil to dry out during the dormant season. These plants need very high humidity to thrive indoors, which makes them wonderful terrarium plants. You can also provide humidity via a pebble tray, misting, or clustering with other plants. Fertilize twice per month during the growing season.
